 I looked and the icons in the mixer are 32x32, and pidgin icons are
 showing the size of whatever it gets from the remote user. The sizes
 appear to be consistent with the sized from
 C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\.purple\icons.

 This might be tangentially related to the pidgin notification in the
 taskbar. It flashes showing the icon of the last person you spoke to (tab
 with focus) as opposed to the icon of the last person who actually sent a
 message.

 I recall reading in another bug I cannot currently find, that this is
 'wrong' behavior and that it should just give the pidgin icon instead.
