 [https://developers.google.com/talk/ This page] specifies that Hangouts
 does not support XMPP: XMPP "support" in Hangouts has always been in the
 form of a Talk->Hangouts bridge.

 Regardless of whether or not that bridge is actually being shut down
 simultaneously with the Windows Talk client, it's pretty certain that it
 ''will'' be shut down. Hangouts protocol support is still an immanent
 need.
