 From http://bugs.debian.org/775296:

 1) When setting up a new Google Talk account the program adds gmail.com to
 the Domain field of the setup screen.
 2) If the user enters username at gmail.com as the Username it gets parsed
 and gmail.com@ is prepended to the existing domain.
 3) If the user then adds their password the account will not work because
 the domain name is incorrect.
