New description:

 I have been having an issue on FreeBSD with the Cinnamon desktop where the
 Pidgin tray icon is not visible after logging in. Pidgin is set to auto-
 start from a launcher in ~/.config/autostart. This is the contents of
 ~/.config/autostart/pidgin.desktop:

 {{{
 [Desktop Entry]
 Name=Pidgin
 Exec=pidgin --config="/mnt/shared/Config/Pidgin"
 Icon=pidgin
 Type=Application
 Terminal=false
 StartupNotify=true
 }}}

 The attached picture shows that there is a blank space where the tray icon
 should be. To get it to show up I have to go into preferences and change
 "Show system tray icon" from "Always" to something else, then back to
 "Always".

 I am not sure what it is directly related to. I have used the LXDE desktop
 under FreeBSD, and if I remember correctly I didn't have any issues with
 it. I have also used the Cinnamon desktop under Debian Linux without
 issues. So I am guessing that the problem lies somewhere in the FreeBSD
 implementation of Pidgin or in combination with Cinnamon. But, I wanted to
 send a bug report upstream just in case it is related to Pidgin itself.

 Pidgin version on FreeBSD:

 {{{
 $ pidgin --version
 Pidgin 2.10.11 (libpurple 2.10.11)
 }}}

 '''--- Edit ---'''
 I forgot to mention that clicking the empty space where the tray icon
 should be does nothing. In order to open the main interface I have to
 launch Pidgin from the menu or command line/terminal.
