 error upon starting Pidgin every time:

 Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

 This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
 way.
 Please contact the application's support team for more information.

 Intel Core i7 4770k
 Z97P-D3 mainboard
 16gb ddr3 Corsair 2033mhz oc ram
 (if it matters) Palit Geforce GTX 970 4gb
 Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

 x86 and x64 Visual C++ redist 2015 runtimes installed.
 Was working fine all day yesterday and this morning, crashed sometime
 whilst I was at work, then refused to restart. Rebooting the computer has
 not helped. repairing the visual C++ installations has not helped.
 Uninstalling and then installing a fresh copy of Pidgin has not helped.
 Pidgin remains entirely unusable.
