Comment:

 This behavior is because there may be multiple reasons to fail the
 authentication, like connection problems, timeouts, etc. So libpurple
 retries.

 This is a tradeoff between typing wrong the password and forgetting the
 password. On the first case (yours) you want to retype it. On the other
 case, you want to disable the account and go and try to recover your
 password.

 One way or the other, we would breake one of the usecases, we think this
 is a good enough tradeoff since you can just re-enable the account and
 type your password again.
