 I've now tried running «./configure --prefix="$HOME/apps/pidgin-beta"
 --disable-kwallet ; make ; make install» inside the version control
 checkout and it finished successfully. So it seems to be a problem with
 out-of-tree-builds which should be supported by GNU Autotools-based
 projects.
