 Should have probably mentioned when merging the other ticket to this one
 that I've been attempting to implement this over the xmas break.  It's
 getting stuck on SSL connections, but I've done as much as I can and would
 appreciate if someone who knows the win32 api a little better than I can
 check it over to see if there's something obvious that I've done wrong.

 I've put the code up on bitbucket rather than being silly and attaching it
 as a patch to that other ticket
