 Suggestion for your FAQ list:

 My company uses our own domain with google mail and previously pidgin
 worked as a chat client.  After enabling 2-step verification for our
 accounts pidgin stopped working.  The solution was to go to
 https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords and create an
 "app password" specifically for pidgin.  Using this password allows pidgin
 to connect again.
