#17240: Sending XMPP messages is slow
--------------------+--------------------------
 Reporter: alyssa | Owner: EionRobb
     Type: defect | Status: new
Milestone: 2.12.1 | Component: unclassified
Version: 2.12.0 | Keywords: xmpp slow
--------------------+--------------------------
Sending messages in XMPP causes Pidgin to freeze for about a second,
hindering the user experience and making Pidgin's XMPP implementation
annoying to use. After pressing enter, the message remains in the textbox
until finally it sends and is put into the log. Sending messages with
 other protocols feels immediate.

This behaviour was observed on Pidgin 2.12.0 (in the Debian repositories)
as well as the latest Pidgin compiled from Bitbucket. It occurs with no
plugins enabled. I am running Debian testing ("buster"). It is unclear
what is different about my environment; other Pidgin users did not observe
 this issue.

Sending messages is fast as expected on Gajim using the same account,
ruling out performance issues with my (self-hosted) XMPP server.

I suspect something in the XMPP prpl is incorrectly blocking on a network
 request.
