 I also use pidgin on linux and it works as desired there.

 On windows, clicking on a link in a chat window causes the window to jump
 upwards to some arbitrary spot earlier in the conversation.

 I expect it to open the link in a browser as left click would.

 I'm specifically using IRC, but I'm not sure it is relevant
