 Webkit is considered insecure and outdated by several, and even Arch, the
 distro I use is phasing it out (depricating it):

 However pidgin 3 (under development on its repo) depends on webkitgtk (the
 outdated and insecure version).  And even though having available
 webkit2gtk, pidgin refuses to use webkit2gtk, and its "autogen.sh"
 building script just fails:

 % ./autogen.sh
 ...
 checking for WEBKIT... no
 no
 configure: error:
 You must have WebKit for GTK+3 1.3.7 or newer development headers
 installed to compile Pidgin.  If you want to build only Finch then specify
 --disable-gtkui when running configure.

 I'd see this dependency as a defect, considering the dependency on
 outdated and insecure webkit (being phased out in some distros), when
 pidgin could depend on more secure webkit2.
