 Oh, you've done it anyway... :( Can you at least tell why?

 Why not just keep all the files in a single directory, whether it's
 ~/.purple or ~/.config/purple, just all in one place?

 Was it because XDG standard says you should do it? Well, it doesn't. XDG
 standards say nothing about $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS/<appname> (but FHS explicitly
 says it should be $HOME/.<appname>). Then why scattering files around,
 making backup/restore and pidgin regression testing harder? What's the
 bright side? Is there any?
