 I upgraded again to the latest pidgin and gtk.  The compatibility tab
 option "Disable fullscreen optimizations" for pidgin.exe did not fix it
 for me (and I don't want to set it at the system level if that's required
 since it'll affect other programs, right?).  I restored my pidgin folder
 from backup to get back the old pidgin and gtk.  I'm back on Pidgin
 2.10.12.  On the latest, every time I started a conversation window, each
 one was larger than the last until finally it filled the entire screen
 (after about 3 times starting it).
