 I'm using pidgin with xmpp group chats. Combining "History"[1] plugin and
 "Message Notification"[2] I get an undesired user experience. When someone
 mentions me in a group chat, the tab of that group chat turns red
 (otherwise if I am not mentioned it turns blue), when I open the tab the
 red goes away. When I am on a flaky network I often get disconnected and
 reconnected automatically, when pidgin uses "History" to display the
 recent history I get "notified" again and have to go through multiple tabs
 to cancel the notification (in some cases the messages are months old).

 I also use "Markerline" which keeps track of what I have seen on each
 group chat, maybe that information could be used to avoid notifying in red
 already read messages which mention me ?


 [1] When a new conversation is opened this plugin will insert the last
 conversation into the current conversation.
 [2] Provides a variety of ways of notifying you of unread messages.
