 After rebuilding the 3 libraries with CFLAGS="-O1 -pipe -g -ggdb" and no
 symbol stripping I am not able to reproduce the segmentation fault
 anymore.

 It might have been some of the compile switches that were used initially,
 like '-O3' on one of the 3 libraries above that were causing the transfer
 thread to segfault.

 I think this can remain closed. Thanks for the pointers!
