 I had the exact same problem as Chronia and did the following and was able
 to get my new ICQ number connected in Pidgin:

 Clicking on the link for ICQ WIM:
 https://github.com/EionRobb/icyque

 I did the Windows login info by installing the 2 required DLLs to the
 Pidgin directories.  Then in Pidgin selected ICQ WIM instead of ICQ for
 the Protocol

 It looks like I'm connected but the task bar icon is not green and looks
 like it's not connected.  I still don't have any contacts to test it out
 though.
