Translate a new language

Hi,
I would like to work on a pidgin translation for Maltese. I was wondering if anyone has started as it is not currently on the list at: http://developer.pidgin.im/l10n/ and the "Tips For Translators" page suggests asking on the mailing list before proceeding.
