Unfortunately, that doesn't work so well. If you do that then you end up
with a non-hidden "purple" directory in ~ for each app (e.g. "purple").
Unless, of course, applications use "$XDG_*/.app_name", in which case
you end up with stuff like ~/.config/.purple by default, which is
sub-optimal.
