Can pidgin work with openssl?

If OpenSSL is included in your distribution (it is with OS X), then  
the rules change a bit, as (or so I understand it) the GPL explicitly  
provides an exception for linking against libraries which ship with  
the distribution regardless of their original license.

FYI, http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/1503 has the patch which  
Adium's build of libpurple uses to utilize openssl.
