libpurple Example for Sending IM's

Hi,
We're looking for example C code of sending IM's on AIM. At first
we were reading the "purple_conv_im_send works not as expected" thread.
In that thread it said to use the signed_on callback for this. The only
callback we could get the purple_conv_im_send() to work with the existing
null_write_conv function; however, that function only works if an IM has
already been received from that buddy.
We've attached the code that we're working with. It writes the message to
stdout as if the IM was sent but the user never receives it. We even tried
inserting a sleep(), sending multiple messages, sending messages with
different text, etc. We are using libpurple 2.3.1.
On a side note, we were thinking that we could use purple-remote to send
IM's through finch. Is this possible? When I tried running purple-remote
I got this error with 2.3.1:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./purple-remote", line 18, in ?
purple = dbus.Interface(obj, "im.pidgin.purple.PurpleInterface")
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Interface'
and this error with 2.2.1:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./purple-remote", line 12, in ?
obj = dbus.SessionBus().get_object("im.pidgin.purple.PurpleService",
"/im/pidgin/purple/PurpleObject")
File "/usr/lib64/python2.3/site-packages/dbus.py", line 148, in __init__
Bus.__init__(self, Bus.TYPE_SESSION)
File "/usr/lib64/python2.3/site-packages/dbus.py", line 66, in __init__
self._connection = dbus_bindings.bus_get(bus_type)
File "dbus_bindings.pyx", line 1414, in dbus_bindings.bus_get
dbus_bindings.DBusException: Unable to determine the address of the
message bus
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
The NoCheckPoints Team
