Why are "we" going the Google Talk way?

There's a MUCH larger userbase for MSN, AND there are already opensource 
clients that support it, which would probably help our friend Michael 
sort things out.

I have this gut feeling I'm going to get flamed somehow because of this, 
so feel free. I'm just wondering, put down your sticks.
