Finch (libpurple) & special characters

[Juan Manuel Oppedisano]

Im using gnome-terminal, but with xterm it happens the same.
Ive noticed, however, that in a interactive login shell, has the one in any
other of the tty's, the problem doesnt show.

What may be?
