That seems a bit overkill, don't you think? One of the stated goals of
Tango is to look good regardless of background color. It doesn't seem
at all unreasonable to expect us to have a single good typing icon
that looks good everywhere.

iChat, it's worth noting, uses a thought bubble for typing:
