Remote controlling Pidgin?

Thanks for pointing that out, but I've no idea how to realize the setup
with Network Manager as I don't know Network Manager.  Currently the
script that put my machine into Suspend to RAM roughly works as follows:

1. Pidgin and Gajim are put into offline mode.

2. The machine is put into Suspend to RAM which will, obviously, kill
  the network connection.
