Scrolling and Away Message Question

I have searched for these answers but have been unable to find anything.

How would I go about making it possible to use my mouse wheel to scroll up
and down through my buddy list without having to have my mouse hovering over
the Pidgin buddy list.

Also, is there a way to add a window that stores all messages received when
away like AIM does?
