It's called a contact. The buddy list is laid out as follows:

List
|_
|  Group
|  |_
|  |  Contact
|  |  |_
|  |  |  Buddy
|  |  |_
|  |     Buddy
|  |_
|     Contact
|     |_
|        Buddy
|_
   Group

So each buddy is in a contact and each contact can contain one or more 
buddies.
