No, this seems like a fine solution.

I think Sadrul said 10 minutes. I'd really like to see the conversation
timeout within 10 minutes of the user closing it and 1 hour if it is
left open. I don't think these need to be preferences.

I'd be good with auto-join implying persistent and only having one
