Design Questions

Hi everybody!

I'm implementing a protocol plugin. The buddies come from another
source (not the IM server, but a local storage),and they are already
grouped. Also, the protocol does NOT have a presence indicator, ergo
showing buddies as online/offline is out of the question. They are
just buddies, split among a number of pre-defined groups.

Can anybody provide me some key concepts on how to work that at the
pidgin API level, or design level?
