GtkTree Widget adjacent to conversation tabs

I wish to add a GtkTree Widget adjacent to conversation tabs (right).
This widget is to be viewed and shared regardless of which tab sheet is in the foreground.

I'm having difficulty with placement from a plugin.  
I looked at the gtkconv.c (setup_common_pane) and I suspect I may be able to do something there.
Is this posssible from a plugin?  Is it a matter of creating a Horiz Pane and reparenting the current controls in the left-most pane and the GtkTree widget in the right?
