Just in case you end up doing the project, I've already been working on
a branch to enable non-blocking log reading/writing in pidgin, though
it hasn't seen much daylight in a while:
im.pidgin.cpw.nader.asynclogging-3
It currently builds, but suffers from performance issues. I'd be happy
to explain my changes/things that should be worked on if you decide to
build off of that code in your project. At the moment, school prevents
me from putting time into actual code development, though.
