Ubuntu 804: Pidgin freezes for about 4 minutes before proceeding

Dear all

Using Ubuntu 8.04 with standard Pidgin 2.4.3, one account on Yahoo, one on XMPP.

Pidgin was working well up until now, but since mid last week, when double clicking on a buddy (both true for Yahoo/XMPP), the Pidgin buddy windows always freezes (turns gray) for around 4 minutes before the buddy communication window comes up.

The chatting itself runs at normal speed. No error message when started from terminal.
