To establish this in a more understandable manner:

Pidgin is set to available at the bottom of the contacts list?

Yahoo and Gtalk are working an online but msn is not?

In Tools >> Preferences. On the last tab 'Status/Idle', what is the
status at start up set to? (This is at the very bottom)
