You did have the mirc equivalent of a pidgin irc account when you
connected, mirc just didn't require the explicit local account creation
step. Have you read http://www.irc.gr/which.shtml ? It seems to indicate
that you should use specific servers from specific locations.

For the record I was just able to connect an irc account in pidgin with
the following setings.
    Username: <a nickname I made up>
    Server: srv.irc.gr

You should be able to do that as well (perhaps after following the
directions on the website I listed before).

If you are still having problems then please open the pidgin debug window
(Help->Debug Window) and attempt to connect again, then copy and paste the
entire debug window output of the connection attempt and attach it to or
paste it into a follow-up email.
