Lost settings ???

There is no prefs.xml.save file.
I did not add any plugins.
I did not change sounds (BTW, how do I turn off sounds ? I see no
relevant option in preferences).
I did not change the buddy icon either.

I recreated my settings since, hope it does not happen again ...
