(I'm assuming when you say "When I open the .deb-file" you mean when you
try to install the .deb package.)

This is a problem with the getdeb package. I always strongly suggest
people *NOT* use packages from getdeb because they are unofficial, and (I
have been told) have little to no actual correctness checking before being
accepted.

Contact the getdeb people or the creator of the particular package you
downloaded and ask them for help.

Also if you are actually using Debian (and not Ubuntu) then there are
official pidgin 2.4.0 packages in Debian unstable.
