Pidgin privacy error!!

Hey everyone!!

Running Ubuntu 8,04 - Pidgin 2.5.8 

Have a minor problem with the privacy. 
It is set to; Allow only users on my buddy list on my 3 email accounts

but every time I restart pidgin it goes back to:  Allow all users to contact me

Lately I have been having a lot of Sexy Adds pup - up ...and thats make me go ..... :--))0

Any help t fix the the problem is highly appreciated,
