How to get started with libpurple

Hi List ,

I am building a monitoring application which needs send alerts to users on
particular event , i want to use libpurple as IM transport .

But I cant find documentation regarding libpurple

   1. Where is code ? is in svn/cvs repo
   2. What interfaces libpurple use
   3. Any example program which uses lib purple ?

Pl help me get started
