Pidgin crashes when adding buddy

Add a buddy, receive the message "Pidgin has encountered a problem and
needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  Nothing related
appears in the Pidgin debug window.

Adding buddy to Jabber based service via XMPP.  Already have other
buddies on using this account which work fine.  Running Pidgin 2.6.2 on
Windows XP Pro.

Any ideas?
