Pidgin crashes when adding buddy

Hello,

 

Pidgin crashes when I attempt to add a new buddy (XMPP account).  I
enter the buddy username, click on "add," and receive a message saying
"Pidgin has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for
the inconvenience."

 

Tried re-installing but it made no difference.

 

Running Pidgin v2.6.2 on Windows XP SP3.
