Chinese Characters And Images Problem

Hello dear Support,

I'm using Pinyin a long time now and i really love it.

Now that i am in china it's a problem that i can't see the chinese  
characters i write (neither in the chat-window nor in the  
send-text-window) i see them just while writing. I'm using pidgin 2.6.6 -  
system language is german and i'm using windows xp. everywhere else  
chinese characters are no problem. Sometimes I can't see postet pictures  
or smilies - i dont know why...

It would be nice if you could help.
