Normaly it should build fine with:

$ ./configure
$ gmake
# gamke install

Ofc the 'configure' is checking you installed environment for shared
libs, packages etc. and will tell you what's missing.

In FreeBSD 9-CURRENT I build 2.7.9 and 2.7.11 with these option:

$ CFLAGS='-I/usr/local/include' CPPFLAGS='-I/usr/local/include' LDFLAGS='-L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib/nss'  ./configure --disable-nm --disable-tcl --enable-gnutls=yes --with-gnutls-libs=/usr/local/lib --disable-meanwhile
