Colouring IRC chat

Hi,
I use Pidgin 2.5.9 for IRC.  I'd like for lines of text in the channel
window to be coloured based on the user speaking.  My primary use for
this will be to gently grey out some noisy IRC bots.  I want to still
see and read the messages, but would also like to be able to easily
skim over them.

Is there an existing plugin for Pidgin to do this?

I'd be happy to develop the plugin myself, but I see currently that
the online API docs for 2.5.x are missing:
