AOL logon problem

On a new installation of Pidgin on Linux Mint 12 Gnome 3.2 Linux Kernel 3.2, I receive this message:

Error requesting https://api.screename.aol.com/auth/clientLogin: Unable to connect to api.screename.aol.com; SSL peer presented an invalid certificate. 

This message has repeated periodically for the past day or so. 

I attempted a logon to aol.com and authenticated with the credentials presented; they are identical inside pidgin.

Yahoo and MSN client logons are working fine.

Any ideas?
