Pidgin with XMPP and LDAP - problem with underscore in domain name

Underscores generally aren't valid characters in domain names, and I
believe the XMPP spec reiterates this restriction. But you're saying
your domain includes an underscore? Is this some sort of common
naming scheme allowed by Active Directory or something? I'm assuming
this is an internal-only domain, right? Are you able to resolve this
domain name with standard DNS tools, like nslookup?

Unfortunately your options aren't great:
1. Use a different IM client
2. Get us to change Pidgin to allow underscores in domain names (this
feels wrong to me)
3. Patch and build Pidgin yourself to allow underscores in domain
names (not trivial)
