Under add account you clicked Yahoo and NOT Yahoo Japan, right.
On the basic tag you put your yahoo id and password and under
Advanced your settings state:

Pager Server: scsa.msg.yahoo.com
Port: 5050
Filetransfer: filetransfer.msg.yahoo.com
Transfer port: 80
Chat room: us
Encoding: UTF-8
