I don't think he means the IM server. I think he want the client to log
to a network file server, rather than the local hard disk. He might
prefer a mechanism that doesn't allow the user of the client to
overwrite those logs, as it generally appears that he doesn't trust his
users.

Emails are not formal business letters, whatever businesses may want.
RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
