If it is XMPP server, yes. But ONLY if the server is configure to allow you
to search for users on that server. Again, you must talk with the person
who maintain the server, if it is possible :)

You can see what is enable, by going to menu Accounts / <Your Account>. Par
example, for Gmail account [which is based on XMPP service] it is Search
function enabled but I didn't used it.
