Mac users can't send me images (e.g. jpegs)

I have Pidgin 2.10.11 (libpurple 2.10.11) running on Windows 8.1
I can direct connect with a Mac user and paste a graphic in my message, and they receive it fine (no proxy).
However,  while chatting works fine, they can't send images to me.  My chat connection account is AIM.
I don't think it's a router/connection issue because I have a Mac laptop and when I run Apple Messages on that, I receive images from him as part of the chat.
Any ideas as to what this can be?
