#183: Authentication Failure Retry MISERY

In summary, Pidgin 2 fails to gracefully handle authentication failures.
Note that I think is utterly and absolutely horrible, miserable and
inexcusable.
When an incorrect password is entered, Pidgin notifies you with a popup
window. When you click on the error button just above the status changer
(also, the popup should allow you to access this!), a popup presents one
with three options.
# "Ok" does nothing.
# "Re-enable Account" stupidly tries to connect again!
# "Modify Account" takes you to the account modification page. At this
page, you again have three button options (touching the password field --
which is populated, even though I told it not to save the password -- does
nothing)
So, the only logical choice is to Modify the account. So you go to modify
the account, and the only logical option at that point is to save the
account. At which point, all popups are GONE! So, unless you have the
accounts list window open, you have to go back to the accounts menu, go
down to enable accounts and choose the account you want to enable. At
which point, you enter your password in. Because if you didn't, you'll
have to go through that whole process AGAIN!
In summary, re-entering a password that failed authentication involves
'''''7'''''(!) steps:
# Close the error notification popup
# Click the button just above status change
# Click on "modify account" (and watch that popup disappear)
# Click on "Save" (and watch the account changer disappear)
# Go to the accounts menu
# Go to the Enable submenu
# Choose the account
# Type your password in! (and pray you got it right!)
Thanks for giving me this space to vent. I hope that the world becomes a
better place because of it. :)
Oh, and I'm using Pidgin 2.0.0beta5.
Brian
(also, your wiki markup is broken, but I'll let you guys clean this up.)
